Newest addition to the Golem family.

Kinja'd!!!

His name is Jerrold. He is the sun god and this is his temple where we sacrifice crickets to gain his favor.

The thumbnail image looked like you created an A ztec structure using lunch meats.

Cool, I had a bearded dragon named “Spike” growing up, real creative I know. Good luck with it!

My boy’s real excited about it. How big did yours end up getting?

I want to say 10 inches or so. Unlike most lizards mine did not mind being handled. I had a Chinese water dragon that was also that way. Every iguana I had wanted to beat the piss out of you with it’s tail if you tried to touch it.

Lol yeah iguanas are a cantankerous bunch.

I had a friend that really had a way with them, but I could never get close enough. I still keep dart frogs and a tree frog. The tree frog is lazy unless there is food out, but the darts are fun to watch.

From observing my friend care for his iguanas I think the secret is getting the crap whipped out of you until the igua nas feel they’ve punished you enough.

This is our first non-mammal non-fish pet.

Haha that sounds right. Well I hope your boy enjoys him, I can’ t remember if dragons stalk/strike the crickets, or if they just go bananas and chase em down either way its fun to watch.

He just kind goes ham on whatever is in front of him. He’ll chase a cricket down if he sees it but it seems like it needs to be close and moving.

I love when they see the food , point one  eye down and cock their heads ...I’m like “ oh buddy you’re fucked” to the cricket, haha.

Yup. Once he gets that one eye on them they’re toast. I’m frankly astonished by the amount of crickets this little guy can put down.

A friend of mine got one for his son’s last birthday. The kid lost interest once seeing it eat crickets became routine and boring.

The dad still likes it and it rides around in his shoulder though.

RPM Jr. had one of these guys for years. I always enjoyed watching him hunt crickets but as he got bigger he actually preferred to munch on chard or kale. As far as I know he’s still kickin’--we gave him to our cleaning lady’s kids when RPM Jr. moved out of the house.

They have a reputation for being hardy creatures. Ours has just started munching on greens. He’s going to be mainly crickets for a bit longer. The whole family is loving him and handling him so he should be pretty chill.

My boy has been wanting a lizard since before he had a guinea pig (that he ended up being allergic to) I’m hoping he keeps interested but I’ll care for him in his stead if I must.

Our friend has one going on 19 years old now. He moves pretty slowly these days.

Not too many crickets...fat Beardies are a disgrace.

Fortunately, I don’t need to keep one as a pet. Every other timber fence post around here seems to have one.

That’s nuts man. One guy at the pet store told me he had one for 16 years and if he had a uvb lamp he reckons she could have lived 25 years

There are many other lizards as well but...yeah... Beardies are common. The kids caught a juvenile one over the weekend for example...
